I am using this livejournal as my sort of electronic diary because my hand cramps quite easily when I try to put a pen to the paper and write my thoughts in ink. I don't intend on becoming an LJ junkie and making tons of friends or making sure people think I am cool by posting the newest pictures of myself from a neat position or stance.
I am a libertarian conservative, politically. I believe in the power of the people, thus I don't believe in calling upon the government to do everything for us. Thus I am extremely anti-statism. Statism in America includes most of the left side of the political spectrum ("liberals," much of the Democratic Party, environmentalists, anti-capitalists, socialists, communists) and it also includes the extremely religious members of the right wing portion of the spectrum. Both extremes believe in calling upon the government to enforce something on their behalf. I believe strongly in the values of the free market, free trade, and freedom itself. Freedom is freedom from regulation, freedom from theft, fraud, and the destruction of our liberties that were made so clear by the greatest rebels of all time - our Founding Fathers. I believe in seeking the truth in all aspects of life. I do not believe in seeing a Michael Moore propaganda film and immediately believing every word he says, just as I don't believe in reading an Ann Coulter book and immediately believing every word she says. Although I will admit Michael Moore lies a lot more. He IS a documentarist and they are allowed to splice film and edit it to look however they want; regardless of how out-of-context it all is.
I believe the only thing government should do for us is protect our liberties from being violated by other people, groups, or the government itself. This "protection" is protection from murder, theft, fraud, destruction of property, assault, etc. When I say protection, I mean that the people who commit the actions against me have to see the consequences for their actions. Which brings me to another point: I firmly believe in the human capability and that we should be allowed to have personal liberty and do as we please...while always knowing that there ARE consequences to our actions. Thus we can make stupid choices but we must also pay the price for such actions. We are not government guinea pigs, we are individuals. Sounds communist, right? Wrong. Communists believe the government owns you.
I don't know why I turned this info space into practically an entire entry.
My favorite movie is "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind." By far. I also love "Master and Commander."
I also absolutely love music. My favorite bands would probably have to be: Every Time I Die, Trophy Scars, the Blood Brothers, Cave-In, and Thrice. It is a common misconception that one who listens to music of the underground specimen has to hold leftist political views. That is a lie. The hardcore/punk/underground music scene has always been centered around the single belief that we should think for ourselves and have an open mind for what other people think. The underground music scene is starting to become hypocritical and turn away from this by shunning anyone with non-leftist views. Johnny Ramone was a conservative for crying out loud. So was the former lead singer for the Misfits. But he was banished from the scene for his views and then he started the organization, Conservative Punk. People have to stop being closed-minded and realize that there was never a rule book created for the music scene that states you must be extremely leftist to like this music. I am an avid Blood Brothers fan, but their political views contradict mine. They are musical genius and their lyricism is the most intriguing style I have ever witnessed in music. Their intelligence and innovative skills inspire me thoroughly, thus I am entitled to love them just as much as anyone else. Stop being idiots.
